“There! Finally I’ve reached the top. Never doing that again...”

Marie stacked her bicycle against the dusty wall and undid her red cycling helmet, laying it on the seat. She also took off her protective gear around her arms and legs, showing them to be bare. Wearing a sky blue tight top that covered her shoulders but showed her waist and a matching miniskirt with a pair of very short black shorts underneath, Marie could have been mistaken for a cyclist in her native Honen, except that unlike most she had ginger hair tied in twin plaits that went right down to her behind and a long face. Her blue eyes twinkled: this was her goal. She only hoped she was right. Marie called out one of her Pokémon, a Grumpig by the name of Night, and spoke to it.

“If my research from Pacifidlog is correct, then this is where Rayquaza should be, at the very top. Your job is to stall it long enough for me to take a photo. Think you can do it?” she asked, glancing down at the shorter than most Grumpig.

“Grum!” Night called out, giving her a thumbs up.

Marie nodded. “Ok! Let’s take that photo.”

If Marie had told anyone that her job was taking rare photos of legendaries, they would have said she was making it up or trying to pry off cash from the gullible. Marie was neither. Instead she had found an interesting way to fulfil children’s wishes. She had volunteered as an unpaid assistant at the Rustboro Trainer’s School in a class specific for children suffering from issues at home, and discovered that while most were certain they would get their own Pokémon, everyone wanted to know what legendaries looked like. They liked to dream, even if some felt sure they would never own one let alone see one. This was when Marie had an idea. Using the internet and other sources, she had narrowed the locations of where legendaries were most often seen. She had then travelled around her home region for these Pokémon armed with her camera and caught glimpses of various Pokémon. At first, her pictures were of a poor quality (particularly a certain Latias picture) but her hard work was paying off and they actually looked like legendaries now. She never posted the pictures online or sold them: in fact she had deliberately brought a Polaroid camera where the pictures were printed out instantly so that she could give the sole copy to a particular child, to make them feel special. Seeing their faces overjoyed was the pride of her work. A couple of children did show the photos to the world and more often than not got disbelieving critiques, and the work didn’t pay Marie, but all were happy. This was the second to last legendary of Honen that Marie hadn’t taken a picture of: now was the time.

They travelled the short stairs together, to be suddenly bathed in a starry night with only the odd wondering dark cloud and half a moon. The expanse of Sky Pillar was larger than Marie had ever imagined it being, with the odd rocky spike dotted here and there. Rayquaza should be asleep at this sort of hour, perfect for a snapshot. However, there was no Rayquaza. Yet, in the middle, was something else. Two figures, one in black, the other in white and beyond them...No, it wasn’t possible. What was that doing there?

Marie began travelling towards it, her camera hanging loosely on the cord around her neck. Night beckoned her to stay, but she was too moved. As she edged closer, she knew.
This was Jirachi: the legendary of wishes. Its eyes were flickering, and it held its body as if in pain, making silent screams. She was moved with pity. She wished to help.
Her progress was halted by the figures, as the dark one block her path with a left hand and the white with a right. They spoke in unison, and now she knew one was male and the other female, though who was which and what they were was still unknown.

“What do you wish for?”

Her first reaction was to heal Jirachi, but she stopped. Marie had a sense that there was some deeper meaning for this. As if, if she wanted a wish from Jirachi, what would be her sole wish? She could ask for world peace, but that seemed even beyond legendary powers. She could ask for things to do with herself, but that would be selfish. Marie thought instead of the children, who longed for pictures of legendaries and other such wishes, whether it was to own a Skitty, have a never ending supply of candy or have mum back in their family again. She knew what she would wish.

“To grant the wishes of those who need them most.”

The arms dropped and were concealed in the robes. The figures moved away.

“Go to Jirachi, chosen.”

She didn’t follow the figures, instead kneeling beside the Pokémon. It didn’t look like it had long. She wondered who would do such a thing, and then thought that maybe legendaries weren’t immortal. The Jirachi opened its eyes wider, as if noticing Marie for the first time. It reached up and removed the blue tag from the top of its star like hair. It motioned with it towards Marie.

“You want me to take it?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Jirachi nodded, and Marie took the tag. Jirachi settled its head back and closed its eyes. As soon as it did, the blue tag whizzed out of Marie’s hand and smacked right onto her forehead.

“Ow!”

Marie tried peeling it off, for it was causing so much pain, but then found that not only could it not be removed, but that her head was bulging with it. Clasping her hands to her head, she felt her forehead, sides and hair dome outwards together, her plaits sticking out horizontally. Eventually, they came to three points and Marie felt her hair becoming more like skin. Two more tags of night blue attached themselves to her left and right points. Two more smooth felts travelled down before curving off before they reached her chin. Marie felt herself. She had a star on her head, so...

“Oh no! I didn’t mean it quite like that!” she yelled, noticing that the body of the other Jirachi was no longer there.

Now her eyes, nose and mouth throbbed and she clenched her fists with the pain that surged throughout her. Her nose was almost removed completely, but Marie found that she could still smell. Her mouth with all its teeth became smaller and pinker. The new skin, rather than the yellow of the rest of her face, was a creamy white that tickled Marie so much that she struggled to suppress a giggle. Her eyes became narrower and little teal marks like teardrops marked the bottom of her eyelid. Opening them, Marie’s eyes were now completely black. The girl was seeing so much else though as thoughts raced through her head. All of Jirachi’s powers were pulsing through her. Not only could she feel the stars around her, but also the telekinesis associated with psychics. It was amazing. Even more amazing than that, although many psychics were smart, Marie didn’t find herself getting more intelligent but found that she can feel inner thoughts. She could see Night shivering a little way away and felt her inner wish to be that her trainer would return. It wasn’t a wish she could grant. Marie knew how to award wishes, upon someone attaching a note to her, and how to change it if the person who gave her that wish needed something more or less and how to ‘bend’ the rules slightly. Marie had been given her own true wish, her dream: she could grant wishes to those that really needed a wish. She felt magical.

Marie settled down now, no longer afraid of her changes, and found that the world was suddenly looking a lot bigger. As the shrinking continued, she motioned with her hand and sent radiating calmness to her former Pokémon. Night stopped shivering and just looked at Marie, a little unhappy but recovering. Night would be ok and so would she.

Having shrugged out of her clothes and dropped her camera, due to her new size, the changes were now happening to her much smaller chest and waist. The neck thinned until Marie was left with a little bobble head on a narrowing rib cage. She felt the unusual and slightly awful sensation of her ribs actually becoming more oval, and thus she watched as her body became more of a flowing egg shape. Her hips stuck out slightly, but soon properly merged with the rest of her body. The downy white skin, and very short fur at that, began covering it bar a mark in the middle: a thin black line that curved upwards giving the impression of a little smile. Her new head and body were making her feel drowsy and Marie couldn’t help but yawn.

Her arms straightened as she too felt them shorten considerably. In fact, Marie could even feel the little tinkling of her bones getting smaller and her muscles tenser yet less firm. Billowing fur like sleeves flowed out from her armpit down to her wrist on the underside, giving Marie the impression that she was wearing some sort of gown-like top. Her fingers grew smaller, until only three were left and very small ones at that. The nails were polished off as more white skin swept into them. Marie yawned again then started. The night was young. The changes, while physical, didn’t feel draining. So...then it dawned on her. Jirachi sleep for a thousand years, and her new body was telling her to sleep. No! She can’t just yet! What about Night? What about the kids? What if chocolate chip cookies were no longer existent in the future?

Marie tried to concentrate on the shortening of her legs, which were rapidly sinking into her hips. She felt the thighs, knees...just about everything that were her legs gone. Her feet and ankles merged as one and the new Jirachi was forced to stand on tip toes. Marie suddenly felt a little weightless, and lifted ever so slightly into the sky. The toes merged into a single point leaving Marie feeling like a ballerina. A sleepy one at that. No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t stop yawning, and her eyes were growing heavy. Maybe the future wouldn’t be so bad? At least Night was looking more ok now, and she needed the strength.

With that, her back tickled as two growths started. They flowed and waved outwards. Grabbing one of them, Marie took it into her hands and nestled it against her cheek. It was so silky! It was a dazzling yellow in colour. This would be her pillow, her duvet, her bed.

Finally closing her eyes, Marie settled down to sleep. The night continued, as did Night who started towards her former trainer. She suddenly felt held back and turned to see the black robed figure holding her.

“She will be fine. This was her wish, you understand that right?”

Night dumbly nodded as she glanced back to her trainer, who was being picked up by the one in the white robe. Night always knew Marie had a gift for granting wishes, but not like this. Seeing the Grumpig so down, the black figure came and knelt by her.

“Do you have a wish to make you feel better?”
Request for :iconmrtherandomguy42: Thanks for being so patient with this! I also hope that this idea is alright after you thought up one, maybe whatever idea you have I can use for another story.

I seem to be in a motivational mood today as I started my nuzlocke comic and finished this off, as well as submit a book review today. Phew! I think I had food on the brain for some of this though. the biggest eater  The request said for this to be in the Pokémon world. I think the Pokedex of Honen said Jirachi can be found in mountainous areas, but I stretched that a bit. Marie means wished for child, another appropriate name!

Pokémon belong to Nintendo. Want a request? Check out this journal: fav.me/d7sge24

EDIT! Thanks to :iconmrtherandomguy42: for reminding me that Jirachi doesn't have fur, hopefully I have changed all the fur comments, but I'm sure if I haven't I will be informed.
